From crime to crime, the technology, knowledge and equipment required changes completely. Often a total different set of skills is needed to process the facts.
Science has evolved not only technologically as with its advances came a better understanding of how the human mind works. There is always an interest on the psychological profile of the crime, scientists analyse the global aspect of the fact to produce answers and leads.
If you watch TV, you know that is uncountable the number of television series plotted in an investigation bureau of some sort.
Crime Investigation
Psychic Investigation
Historical Investigation
Medical investigation
Scientific Investigation
Fictional Investigation
One can stay years sitting in front of the box watching innumerable solved and unsolved crimes and investigations documented in film someway. Horrid and unbelievable stuff happening to other human beings seems to fascinate people all over the world.
Although some television series are based in true life, it is visible that seems to be more quality and results in the services offered by fictional characters in television than in real life, as it comparable through the also available television shows that collect images from CCTVs cameras installed all over our shoulders.
One example of reality inspired crime television series is Criminal Minds, an American production that pictures criminal profilers from the FBI’s Behavioural Analysis Unit – Quantico, and shows how the BAU works. Behavioural Analysis scientists from the FBI are also present in several episodes of Law & Order, appear in NCIS and are portrayed in the Hannibal Lecter films.
Film producers from all backgrounds use Journalistic investigation as a constant and deeply explored theme. All the President’s Men, Citizen Kane, The Insider, Changeling, Absence of Malice are some of the titles that journalism played its role.
Cinema and television provide a channel to journalists and writers to picture a tragic reality and expose true social neglect without the risks and censorship that they face when publishing news on facts. It is publicized everywhere that journalists investigating political issues, corruption and drug traffic – topics that affect directly a great part of the world’s population-, continue to be target of violence.
In parallel to it all, police forces commercialise the filming of their actions, while criminals are profiting from their crimes, selling their true detailed horrid stories to eager readers, just because, for some twisted reason, a great number of human beings is fascinated by crime.
I prefer to believe that this crime fascination is breeding a new kind of human being. One that understands the sickness of some twisted minds that will never care for nothing nor anyone, and recognizes that relationship to people is the crucial factor the determines if a person has more or less chance to become a serial killer or a criminal of any sort. It is really extremely rare that a person is ‘born a criminal’ as a result to any genetic malfunction or disorder. What happens from birth to the first very criminal act is what defined the person as disturbed.
